TORN, by Lynette Greenfield
Established artist, Harlow, lives alone in a spacious Manhattan apartment. She is content making her art and enjoying the peace and quiet. Her world is perfect, just as she designed it. At least, that's what she tells herself. Harlow soon realizes that she has a lingering feeling that she can't seem to shake, a deep desire to feel something that the ordinary world has not given her. She doesn't quite know what it is or how to fulfill it, and while she pretends to be happy, her search for the feeling leads her down a dangerous path of self-harm. Xavier, a confident, handsome stranger, enters her world and sees something in Harlow that she cannot see in herself. But his intentions are not what she assumes. Xavier has a tragic past and seeks revenge, but he cannot do it alone. He needs someone susceptible, ready to bend to his needs to fulfill his plan, and willing to draw blood. Harlow, in her vulnerable state, is the perfect ally, even if she isn't aware of what he is leading her toward. Harlow's journey is chaotic and heartbreaking, but ultimately, it is necessary to find healing, even if it is in the most unlikely of places.
